Healthy Community Action Team (HCAT)

Healthy Community Action Team (HCAT) Arlington is a community coalition to support childhood obesity prevention efforts in Arlington County.  HCAT's diverse members play an active role in reducing childhood obesity in our community and improving children's health and wellness through nutrition, food security and physical activity initiatives. HCAT Arlington receives funding from Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth to support coalition growth and projects that improve the health and well-being of Arlington children, with a particular focus on children in marginalized communities.

Coalition members meet monthly to collaborate on similar activities, share resources about ongoing efforts and learn more about issues and topics concerning children's health and wellness. The coalition aims to improve health outcomes through efforts that address increased physical activity, reduced screen time, increased vegetable consumption and reduced consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. HCAT Arlington also supports two member-led subcommittees: Food Security and Physical Activity and Outdoor Play.

HCAT Arlington receives additional grant support through Arlington Foundation for Families and Youth.

For more information about the coalition or subcommittees, please contact Mary Sanders at hcatarlington@gmail.com.
